Our training methodology is one of balance and mutual respect between the owner/handler and the dog. By using this method the dog understands that obeying the commands gets him/her the things that they desire, making them more likely to repeat the behavior. On the flip-side, they also learn what no means and they are less likely to repeat unwanted behaviors. As with ALL training methods, consistency is the key and the owner is a huge part of any of our programs. (I can give you a Porsche, but you have to learn how to drive a stick)! With any of our programs continued support is provided for the life of the dog.
This is a popular and very effective course taught by one of our trainers. The course is 3 weeks. It covers all the basics with concentration on specific issues that you have with your pet. Your dog will learn all basic commands with emphasis on manners & calmness in all situations. This program also helps the owner learn as well, with two training sessions (1 at 2 weeks and the other upon pickup) it gives the owners a solid foundation in which to build on. This course is a client favorite and generates comments such as “I can’t believe it’s the same dog” and “He’s so calm & content.” This program is $1600.00 (payable in 3 installments if needed).
Unlike dog obedience training that trains a dog to perform specific actions when requested, ideally behavior modification looks to change a dog’s reaction to situation, a person, a thing, and animal, etc..
It is important for people to understand that when we try to treat dog aggression issue, we are looking to change more than simply what the dog does. Because sometimes it is possible to temporarily suppress aggression, but unless you treat the underlying problem, the problem can get worse long term. We are looking to change the attitude as well so that the dog is no longer anxious. To change that attitude means giving our dogs every chance to succeed. We need to understand how to read the subtle behaviors that are showing our dogs are uncomfortable, and they need to understand exactly what is expected of them – and they need to be able to do it. You can’t expect a child to read a book until they have learned the alphabet.
Since Behavior modification is a very specific training protocol, we only take one dog for this program at a time. We make every effort to accommodate emergency situations so please call to discuss your unique situation and timeframe. Because of the nature of this training no time frame will be given until an assessment is made of the situation (usually 3-5 weeks) The owners are given 3 lessons to make sure that they are able to communicate with the dog once back home. The charge for this program is $2000.00 (payable in 3 installments if necessary).
Going on vacation and needing to board your pet anyway? This is a great solution to keep your dog interested and engaged, we can start from scratch or work on specific issues and make improvements where they are needed. This program is $79.00/day which includes the boarding fee.
Puppy Head Start
A private lesson to help the owner get off to the best start possible. This is a chance to get all your questions answered and nip those problem behaviors in the “tail”. (1/2 hour- 1 hour) $25.00-45.00
For owners desiring personal instruction tailored to the needs and personality of their dog. We can address any number of issues that owners typically have and are unsure of how to resolve. We find that private instruction give pets the best start, group lessons are “fun” and provide socialization for the dogs, but when working on specifics we think it’s more effective to work one-on-one. (1 hour) $50.00
